CHECKLIST: RESIDENT HANDBOOK SAFETY ITEMS

• Maintain safe housekeeping practices (e.g., keep walkways clear, close cabinets when not in use, never block fire exits or fire equipment, clean-up spills and hazards immediately etc.)
• Store cleaning supplies safely (e.g. away from furnace or other mechanicals, tightly closed and labeled, out of reach, etc.)
• Know the locations of fire extinguishers and emergency utility shutoffs
• Become familiar with emergency processes and the property diagram of emergency exits (should be included)
• Always close the doors all the way and use deadbolts
• Always look through the peephole before answering your door
• Never let a stranger into the building
• Cancel all deliveries when you are going to be away
• Use timers to turn lights on and off when you are not at home
• Leave the radio on when you are gone for an extended period
• Follow and communicate appropriate guest behavior guidelines
• Don’t use candle and incense
• Don’t distribute alcohol to minors
