CHECKLIST: RESIDENT EDUCATION STRATEGIES
- Educate residents on water conservation (offer pamphlets with conservation tips, hold a workshop, etc.)
- Always notify the manager or leasing office regarding plumbing leaks needed repairs to appliances or fixtures
- Don’t use the dishwasher or washing machine for small loads unless the appliance has a load setting
- Use showers instead of tubs for bathing
- Don’t use the toilet as a trash receptacle
- Educate residents about energy efficiency and the property’s goals
- Always use cold water when operating garbage disposals
- Use cold water and warm water cycles more often when washing clothes
- Leave thermostats at a specified temperature rather than constantly adjusting the controls
- Maintain thermostat settings at no less than 75F during the cooling season and no more than 68F degrees during the heating season
- Do not block registers and outlets; allow air-conditioning and/or heat to flow through the unit
- Close fireplace dampers tightly when fireplace is not in use so the chimney doesn’t draw heated or cooled air from the unit
- Adjust drapes, blinds, and shades to act as insulation
